Henry and I were charmed by the beach at Berjaya Redang Beach Resort. We had reserved four nights, then extended our stay four more (Room 138), even though the resort was in its last month of renovations. The island has several hotels, many clustered on Long Beach; however, we chose the more secluded bay and beach of the Berjaya Redang Resort. The beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever experienced, made so by the combination of factors: white sand that is as soft as talcum powder, crystal clear water in many shaders of blue, with an ocean floor of deep soft sand, perfect temperatures in both water and air. There is absolutely no chill factor when swimming or sunning, and coral reefs with friendly fish are nearby.  The property of the resort, nestled in a deep bay, is surrounded by tropical jungle, adding to the privacy. Henry and I were delighted to see a family of monkeys on our morning walk to breakfast, and could have taken a jungle trek there, had we been so inclined. However, we decided to concentrate on the spectacular water, beach, coral, and marine life that abound at Redang Island and the surrounding National Marine Park in the South China Sea. There is a Dive Master at the resort, with certification for scuba diving available. I was tempted, but Henry and I, having done some of this, now prefer the ease and freedom of snorkeling. We made two snorkeling trips around the island, the boat mooring near different beaches, coves and islands each time. Days were fun and relaxing in this paradise of beautiful weather, comfortable accommodations, relaxing spa, and friendly, professional staff. We were happy to be amongst their early guests, since the hotel had been closed for renovations between October and February during the Monsoon season. The high season is in full swing beginning in April through September.
