Theaterinerkirche, located next to the Feldhernnhalle at Odeonplatz is considered to be one of the most magnificent churches in Munich. The church, an abbey, was built between 1663-1690 in commemoration of the birth of Maximilian in 1662. Born to Elector Ferdinand Maria and his wife, Henrietta Adelaide of Savoy, their child was heir to the Bavarian crown. The architect was Agostino Baralli, an Italian who based his design on St. Andrea della Valle in Rome. The façade was designed by François de Cuvilliés and was not completed until the mid-18th century in 1768. The interior of the church is decorated with stuccos by Giovanni Antonio Viscardi in the Baroque style. The twin towers with copper domes enrich the profile of this historic area of Munich. Most distinctive is the exterior color known as egg yolk gold.
